Thursday nights training...the 1st with no rain in what seems like weeks! Regular class saw Tugce, Isaac and newcomers Chris and Wilson show up for a warm up, stretching, 4 basic punches, 18 basic kicks plus 2 extra and an introduction for Chris and Wilson to the 1st set. The pace was relatively relaxed as the basics all have to be clarified for the new guys. Everyone has promised to practice and try out the 30 day challenge.

I spent about 5 minutes working on two kicks this morning. An inch kick concentrating on hand position and a straight front kick with clearing hands.
I'm going to review the kicks online and the first part of the form. and practice a little this evening. Feeling kind of tired. It's been a long week.

I spent time on the side kick, front kick, mandarin duck kick and inch kick last night. This morning I practiced the cresent kick with mule kick and I reviewed the set 1 of the form multiple times and practiced the form up to the second inch kick and finished with outside whipping punch or back fist I'm not sure what it's called. I also practiced the inch kicking with alternating straight verticle punches. I will go for a 5k run/walk later this evening.

Friday: Gotta get ready for mantis low stances, tried the one legged-squats after regular workout. Many reps but still can only go half-way.
Saturday: Sore throat, hmm.. Only wall squats. Two legs AND one leg, which is harder than it sounds.
Sunday: Ah! Voice gone, fever with a general feeling of ewwness... Will have to make up for it tomorrow and Tuesday.

Went for 5k run/walk mostly walk though. Leg stretching. Practised spinning heel kick left and right for 30 minutes. Starting to get the hang of the kick. Had a few good ones... then, started getting sloppy and dragon whips his tail turned into dragon broke his tail. lol Nothing too serious though...past injury haunting me.....ouch.

Josh

Andrew showed up at practice and showed us some variations to the 4 basic punches and the kicks:

Punches (remember Chuojiao Mabu):

1)look down when blocking, then look up where punching, use waist, let "back hand" follow body, push punch until last inch, dont bob head;

2)look up when making upward and outward circle scooping block, then look where punching, punch under the scoop, use waist, let "back hand" follow body, push punch until last inch, dont bob head;

3) open hands (and thumbs!) and start blocking as soon as start moving-use waist;

4) use more waist;

Kicks:

1) Straight swinging-keep upper body quiet;
2)Inside crescent-use leg to lift leg-keep upper body quiet;
3)Outside crescent-use leg to lift leg-keep upper body quiet;
4) Side swinging-use leg to lift leg-keep upper body quiet, dont lean, slap foot with open hand;
5) Toe kick;
6) heel kick;
7) Side kick-wushu style side kick;
8) Shovel;
9) 10 shaped kick-more waist twist to feel compression, look at back hand, back hand flat and edge of hand perpendicular to ground;
10) Hide flower-hand stays out during basics-thumbs open;
11)Scythe-;
12) Flower Basket handle;
13) Mandarin Duck Kick-Thumbs open, back hand shoulder level;
14 a.)Front sweep;
14 b.) back sweep;
15) Inch kick (okay wrong place but I was NOT going back to re-number these);
16) Push Kick (same problem with placement in kicking order...sorry), no downward block, roll hand at face level quickly out to re-grab, kick under chin;
17) Donkey kick-now for 2 opponents,right inch kick while clapping hands in front, sit low, jump and tuck/bring left foot under butt while clapping hands behind back, chamber right leg, bend down and while planting hands on ground sneak/shoot right leg up and back;
18) spinning back heel

Forms-change to opening-after 3 elbows: no punch-slide open ka she hand down towards opponents throat-change closing stance to have 2 feet closer and facing forward in empty stance, also twist open hand as far around as possible
