It looks like Ann, Jonathan, Boris and Kim will be the dedicated regulars! Sadly, Boris is moving to Toronto on the 18th of January...we hope he can find a Xing Yi club near his work so he can keep learning.
We will be continuing to learn and practice the 4 fanzi basic punches, the 18 chuo jiao basic kicks and the 1st chuo jiao set, as well as the other training. We have also started to introduce some of the partner practices for the kicks. On the weapons side, Kim advises that she is working on the broadsword and the staff set with Rachel. Interestingly, although not part of the chuo jiao system that I am aware of, Jonathan has expressed real interest in learning the 3 section staff/sanjiegun so we will be starting that training as soon as he actually manages to get one. We train together every Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Beth Israel gym from 7:15 until 8:30-9:00ish. The 2nd class took place last Thursday. Two new students, Ian and James, showed up to give things a try. Kim was there too. Ian and James were introduced to the basics. Kim and I worked on the 5th Dan wushu staff set. Ian sent me several messages afterwards showing great enthusiasm and I hope the momentum continues.
The 3rd class took place last night. Ann, Jonathan, Boris, Aiden, Rachel and Kim all showed up fr a work out. In addition to the running, warm up, stretches, push ups, fingertip push ups and upside down against the wall training, we went over the 1st and 2nd Fanzi basics, kicks including Zheng Ti Tui, Cun Ti and Shi Zi Tui and started the Chuo Jiao Yi Lu, introducing Xie Shen Ao Bu- Reverse body angle stance. Everybody has PROMISED to practice so that we can keep the learning curve going. See you Thursday! This is your new blog post. Click here and start typing, or drag in elements from the top bar.
Chuo Jiao Fanzi Wushu Chinese Martial Arts On December 1st, 2009, we will have the very first Chuo Jiao Fanzi class at the Beth Israel gym. Over the past few years we have run other Chinese Martial Arts classes the the Beth Israel gym, including Modern Wushu, Tai Chi and Xing Yi. The previous classes were mainly taught by Andrew Gordon, however Andrew is not available this year as he is in Halifax Regional Police Service Cadet Training until April 2010. Therefore I (Josh Arnold) have volunteered to teach the class. Although belt testing is not regularly seen in Traditional Chinese Martial Arts, I am advised that at the last meeting of the Beijing Chuo Jiao Fanzi Federation the senior masters agreed that belt testing should be introduced as it helps students recognize their achievments and can keep students motivated within their training. Therefore, this years class will offer belt testing to students who happen to be interested. Chris Rayner has generously agreed to be our "Beijing Connection", communicating with Wang HeLing, president of the Beijing Chuo Jiao Fanzi Federation, about the belt testing requirements and our affiliation with the Beijing Chuo Jiao Fanzi Federation. |
